The Human Family
The family is multigenerational and exists over time.
As people we connect because it’s in us to connect. We are drawn to others to form relationships, to form families, to form communities and societies… but we are an individual within those relationships and trying to hold onto what we think and feel while in contact with others is challenging and creates tension and anxiety within us.
“The ability to be in emotional contact with others yet still autonomous in one’s own emotional functioning is the essence of the concept of differentiation.” (Kerr and Bowen 1988)
That tension gets into us and into our relationship system… we start to have problems or our relationships do.
Is this what brings you to my website today?
Emotions crowding your thinking and keeping you from being who you want to be?
Is there a particular problem or symptom that is holding you back or interrupting the kind of life you want to have?
Are you wanting to manage your relationship more effectively and create a more satisfying one?
Or, perhaps it’s your family of origin? Particular memories from growing up or a particular family member who is challenging for you?
